The Piedmont Conservatory Strings combines players from the university and the community to perform a concert of works by contemporary composers, including Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, Lionel Sainsbury, Ola Gjeilo, and others.

NEW RELEASE The world premiere recording of Lionel’s Time of the Comet is released on PRISMA – Contemporary Works for Orchestra on Navona Records (NV6141) on 9 February 2018.
The recording took place at the Reduta Hall, Olomouc, Czech Republic, with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra under their chief conductor Petr Vronský.
Time of the Comet, a symphonic poem scored for large orchestra, was written in 1997, during the appearance in the night skies of the Hale-Bopp comet.

Lionel in concert in Oxfordshire
Lionel will be giving a solo piano concert at 7.30pm on Saturday 7th April in St.Denys’ Church, Stanford in the Vale, near Faringdon, Oxfordshire, as part of Music in the Vale’s 2018 series.
The programme will include Lionel’s Sea Storm and Andalusian Fantasy, music by Bach and Rachmaninov, and works by Chopin, including the “Minute” Waltz Op.64 No.1, Berceuse Op.57 and Polonaise Op.53.
